Whether you are a cautious beginner trying a new sport or a seasoned student here in the area for your college years or an adult rider who wants to get back her favorite sport while her kiddos are in school, professional instruction is offered aboard our wonderful school horses ponies, matched with care and attention to your level and abilities as a rider.
Beginners get hands-on experience in horse care and handling as part of their lessons, building confidence and skills in a safe and fun environment. As beginner riders demonstrate growing abilities over time, new skills are introduced, such as cavalettis and small jumps, mastering proficiency in gaits and steering, and above all, enjoying a positive experience aboard our horses.
We do offer haul in lessons, giving those who keep their horses at home the opportunity to train with our instructors. Horses must have proof of vaccination and a negative Coggins within the past 12 months.
Every rider is required to wear an ASTM-certified riding helmet during lessons and anytime when mounted. Riding tights or pants, not jeans. Riding boots with a smooth sole, no tread or rubber. We recommend riding gloves for every age rider. Finally, do not wear oversized shirts. A properly fitting top tucked into your riding pants is more appropriate. If your pants have belt loops, please wear a belt.
While there are many options online, it is a good idea to go to a local tack store where you will find just what you need along with plenty of knowledge and advice. We recommend visiting Elite Equestrian on Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth. Mention you are taking lessons at October Hill Farm in order to get a nice discount on your purchases. Within Parker County, try Teskey’s Saddle Shop on I-20W.
